Introduction to October Scholarships

Ah, October. There are so many things going on in October: the first real month of fall, Halloween, and, as you might have guessed, lots and lots of scholarships to apply for!

Now that the novelty of the beginning of a new school year has worn off, hopefully, that means more time to take an even deeper dive into the world of paying for college and scholarships.

In this post, I highlight 28 great opportunities to apply for. No matter where you're at in your scholarships journey, there's guaranteed to be a scholarship in the post for you!

Scholarships to Apply for in October 2023

  • Amount: $2,000 

    Deadline: End of October 

    Eligibility: Open to high school, college, and graduate students in the US.

  • Amount: $50,000 total

    Deadline: End of October

    Eligibility: Open to all US high school and college students ages 16 and older. All you need to do to apply is create an account.

  • Amount: $2,000

    Deadline: October 31

    Eligibility: Open to high school seniors and undergraduate students in the US.

  • Amount: $2,500

    Deadline: Last day of October 

    Eligibility: Open to all students 13 and older!

  • Amount: $2,500

    Deadline: Quarterly 

    Eligibility: Open to high school juniors and seniors interested in attending a Christian college or university.

  • Amount: 50% of the program fee

    Deadline: October 1

    Eligibility: Open to outstanding Hispanic students attending HACU-member schools looking to study abroad with AIFS.

  • Amount: $500

    Deadline: October 1

    Eligibility:Open to undergraduate students admitted to or currently enrolled at an accredited college or university in the United States. Applicants must be non-US citizens, from a single-parent household, or first-generation college students. To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.8.

  • Amount: Full-ride

    Deadline: October 1

    Eligibility: Open to undocumented/DACA high school seniors with financial need.

  • Amount: $1,500

    Deadline: October 1

    Eligibility: Open to undergraduate and graduate students attending a school in the US.

  • Amount: $20,000

    Deadline: October 2

    Eligibility: This merit-based scholarship is open to high school seniors in the US. 

  • Amount: Varies

    Deadline: October 10

    Eligibility:The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or for English Teaching Assistant Programs.  A candidate will submit a Statement of Grant Purpose defining activities to take place during one academic year in a participating country outside the U.S.

    Applicants must be US citizens who are recent college graduates or current Masters / Doctoral students.

  • Amount: $1,500

    Deadline: October 13

    Eligibility: Open to students enrolled in a BEA 2-year member institution or graduates of these programs now enrolled in a BEA 4-year institution. 

  • Amount: $2,000

    Deadline: October 14

    Eligibility: Open to high school seniors as well as undergraduate and graduate school students. Must be pursuing a degree that enables you or others in your community to learn a new trade, develop skills and technology, or start a small business related to home services offered by Porch.

  • Amount: $1,000

    Deadline: October 15

    Eligibility: Open to women 25 years of age or older who are returning to school. Applicants must live and attend school in the Greater Los Angeles area, including Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura Counties (with the exception of specific scholarships for UNLV students).

  • Amount: $1,000 - $10,000

    Deadline: October 17

    Eligibility: Open to high-achieving high school seniors in the US. Must have at least a 3.0 GPA and participate or have participated in grades 9, 10, or 11 in at least one of the sports recognized by the International Olympic Committee in the Summer and Winter Olympic Gamesthe Paralympic Games, or the National Federation of State High School Associations. 

  • Amount: $1,000

    Deadline: October 17

    Eligibility: This merit-based scholarship is open to 10th-12th graders, college students and non-traditional students. The main requirement is that you are committed to going to school and can express your goals for getting a higher education.

  • Amount: $2,500

    Deadline: October 17

    Eligibility: Essay contest open to college students with disabilities who are enrolled and matriculated as full-time or student in a two- or four-year accredited college or university.

  • Amount: Full-tuition (valued at over $120,000)

    Deadline: October 18

    Eligibility: This full-ride scholarship is open to high achieving Arizona high school seniors. 

  • Amount: $90,000

    Deadline: October 26

    Eligibility: Open to immigrants or the children of immigrants, who are pursuing graduate school in the United States. Must be 30 or younger by the application deadline. 

  • Amount: $3,500 

    Deadline: October 27

    Eligibility: Open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in a logistics/supply chain degree program at an institution within the 9 counties comprising the San Francisco Bay Area.

  • Amount: up to $20,000

    Deadline: October 30

    Eligibility: Easy, no-essay scholarship open to US residents enrolled full-time at a two or four-year US college or university.

  • Amount: $1,000

    Deadline: October 31

    Eligibility: Open to minority and/or pre-law high school seniors, current college students, and graduate students who live in the US. Minimum 3.0 GPA.

  • Amount: up to $30,000

    Deadline: October 31

    Eligibility: Open to high school freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Must be a US citizen or permanent resident.

  • Amount: $500 - $1,000

    Deadline: October 31

    Eligibility: Open to high school, college, and graduate school students worldwide. 

  • Amount: $5,000

    Deadline: October 31

    Eligibility: Open to all students ages 14 and older who are US citizens.
