Introduction to Missouri scholarships

The state of Missouri is home to over 65 four-year public universities, two-year community colleges, and private undergraduate and graduate universities combined. Whether you’re a high school senior looking at attending a Missouri college or university, or you’re a current college student at one of Missouri’s many institutions, this post highlights many great scholarships and resources for you to take advantage of. 

Let's go over a few of Missouri's best scholarships for students.

Missouri scholarships to apply for

  • Amount: $1,000

    Deadline: Quarterly

  • Amount: $25,000

    Deadline: Monthly

    Details: This monthly scholarship is open to all college students!  Just fill out one simple registration form.

  • Amount: $1,000 to $3,000

    Deadline: Varies

    Eligibility:Students must have a composite score on the ACT or SAT in the top 5 percent of all Missouri students taking those tests.

  • Amount: Varies

    Deadline: Varies

    Eligibility: The A+ Scholarship Program is a merit-based scholarship that provides scholarship funds to eligible graduates of A+ designated high schools who attend participating public community colleges or vocational/technical schools, or certain private two-year vocational/technical schools.

  • Amount: $8,000

    Deadline: Quarterly

    Eligibility: For the opportunity to win an $8,000 scholarship, submit a video or written essay about an individual you know personally (who lives in your community) who has inspired you and helped you build the confidence you need to achieve your goals.

  • Amount: Varies

    Deadline: January15

    Eligibility: The Missouri Broadcasters Association provides scholarships to assist Missouri students enrolled in broadcast/digital media degree programs at public or private colleges/universities. High school seniors who have yet to enroll in college classes may apply, but will be required to show proof of enrollment before receiving the scholarship funds.

  • Amount: up to $1,000

    Deadline: January 31

    Eligibility:The graduate and undergraduate applicants must be enrolled in a field of study related to management of natural resources, specifically fish, wildlife, forest, soil, and water.

  • Amount: $1,000

    Deadline: February 1

    Eligibility: The applicant must be pursuing a degree in Biology, Wildlife Management, Forestry, Fisheries, Ecology, Agriculture, Criminal Justice or a field of study closely related to the preceding subjects.

  • Amount: $1,000

    Deadline: February 14

    Eligibility:Missouri Corn Merchandising Council will award deserving college juniors and high school seniors $1000 scholarships for the coming school year and plan on majoring in agronomy or related field.

  • Amount: $1,000

    Deadline:  February 23

    Eligibility: Are you a twin?  Then this scholarship may be for you!  The awards are presented to multiple birth children who are graduating from high school the year of the award to fund their continuing education either in college, junior college, or professional trade schools. 

  • Amount: $3,000

    Deadline: February 28

    Eligibility: The MSPE Western Chapter will award at least two $3,000 scholarships to high school seniors preparing to attend an approved list of Missouri schools of engineering.

  • Amount: up to $2,500

    Deadline: March 31

    Eligibility: The scholarships are open to high school & college students interested in or intending to pursue an insurance, risk management or actuarial science course of study in a Missouri college or university.

  • Amount:  $300 to $2,850

    Deadline: June 1

    Eligibility:  Applicants must be an undergraduate student enrolled full time at a participating Missouri school and have an EFC of $12,000 or less.

  • Amount: $500

    Deadline: June 1

    Eligibility: Applicants must achieve two grades of three or higher on Advanced Placement exams in the fields of math and/or science while attending a Missouri public high school.

  • Amount: Varies

    Deadline: June 1

    Eligibility: This is a scholarship designed to assist academically talented minority and underrepresented individuals pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in an environmental course of study that will lead to employment in a field that is clearly environmentally related.

  • Amount: $5,000

    Deadline: October 15

    Eligibility:  The National Rice Month Scholarship Video Contest is an opportunity for graduating high school students living in one of those six rice-growing states (yes, Missouri is one of them!) to tell a story about U.S. rice.

  • Amount: $11,000

    Deadline: December 1

    Eligibility: For University of Missouri applicants- A 33–36 ACT or 1450–1600 SAT and excellent academic record.

  • Amount: up to $2,000

    Deadline: December 2

    Eligibility:The MLN recognizes the need to help qualified students achieve their nursing career goals. All scholarship applications MUST come from your dean.

A great resource for Missouri students comes from The Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development. Students, student representatives, high school counselors, superintendents, headmasters, and institutional financial aid administrators can also view student accounts, make updates, and do more.

According to the Department of Education, Missouri residents owe $29.1 billion in federal student loan debt with student borrowers owing $34,668 each on average (those numbers do not include private loans). 48.9% of these loan borrowers are under the age of 35.
