Scholarship Description
The WISE (Women in STEM Excel) Scholarship was created by Dr. Alexander Sobel to support, empower, and encourage women in Washington pursuing education in science, technology, engineering, and/or mathematics. Washingtonian women interested in a career in a STEM field are welcome to apply for the $3,500 scholarship.
The scholarship award is to be used toward tuition and educational expenses, including but not limited to: textbooks, supplies (paper, pens, notebooks, etc.), required technology, on-campus dining, housing, and transportation costs.
The scholarship award will be disbursed directly to the student in the form of a cash prize. The selected student is responsible for any applicable tax forms and resulting tax obligations. We recommend award recipients consult a tax professional to ensure compliance and accurate reporting on their taxes.
Eligibility Requirements
The WISE Scholarship is open to female Washington residents pursuing education in a STEM field. Eligible applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Student must be a female Washington resident;
- Student must be pursuing a degree/career path in a STEM-related field* at an institution of higher learning;
- Applicant must submit one letter of recommendation with valid contact information;
- Student must complete application form and provide original essay answers.
*Eligible STEM subjects include: Chemistry, Computer & Information Technology Science, Engineering, Healthcare/ Medical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Physics, Astronomy, Social Sciences, and STEM Education and Learning Research.
