Scholarship Description
Purpose
To promote environmental studies by students who are residents of New Jersey or nonresidents studying in New Jersey or its surrounding waters.
Eligibility
Open to college students, graduate students, Ph.D. candidates, or non-degree-seeking applicants above the high school level.
Applicants must be either:
- a) residents of New Jersey studying in New Jersey or elsewhere, or
- b) nonresidents of New Jersey pursuing study in the state or its surrounding waters. Eligibility is open to U.S. Citizens and permanent residents who are enrolled in a U.S. – based institution.
Due to IRS restrictions, GCA is unable to fund awards for international applicants.
Provisions
Provides $3,000 in financial assistance to one or more scholars annually for summer environmental studies selected by the applicants. (The award amount was increased from $1500 in 2007.)

The purpose of The Garden Club of America is to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening, to share the advantages of association by means of educational meetings, conferences and publications, and to restore, improve, and protect the quality of the environment through educational programs and action in the fields of conservation and civic improvement. Founded in 1913, the Garden Club of America is a volunteer, nonprofit 501(c)3 organization comprised of 200 member clubs and approximately 18,000 club members throughout the country.
