Scholarship Description
More than one-third of America’s college students are people of color. But racial and ethnic minorities make up only small fractions of college faculty. Nationwide, about 5 percent of faculty are African-American, about 3 percent are Hispanic and about 1 percent are Native American. The SREB-State Doctoral Scholars Program is working to change that. The goal of the Doctoral Scholars Program is to increase the number of underrepresented minority groups who earn the Ph.D. and seek careers are college and university faculty members.
Eligibility Requirements
- For residents of the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia
- Must be American Indian/Alaska Native
- Must be Asian/Pacific Islander
- Must be Black, African American
- Must be Hispanic, Latino/a
- Award is available to U.S. citizens
Application Requirements
- Transcript required
- Essay required
- Recommendations or references required
- Special requirements exist (These are specified in text.)
- Letter or email providing confirmation of acceptance to a doctoral program . Verification of U.S. citizenship. Verification from the university of in-state residency status if applying to Georgia, Maryland, South Carolina or Virginia (This is not the same as in-state tuition status, which is sometimes granted to out-of-state scholars).
