Scholarship Description
To commemorate the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s Royal Visit to Alberta in July 2011, the Government of Alberta established the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Scholarship. The scholarship recognizes the exceptional educational achievements of Advancing Futures students who have been in government care.
The scholarship reflects the important value the royal couple places on education and creates a special legacy in honour of their tour of our province, while making a positive and lasting difference for bright young Albertan scholars who have overcome significant challenges in their lives.
The scholarship is an enhancement to the Government of Alberta’s Advancing Futures program, which provides social and emotional supports and funding to youth who have been in care, as they pursue post-secondary studies and prepare for adulthood.
The $2,000 scholarships are awarded to 25 Advancing Futures students annually, which is determined based on their previous year’s academic performance. In the fall, recipients are issued their award payment by Advancing Futures and mailed a congratulatory letter from the Minister.
