Scholarship Description
The British Institute for the Study of Iraq (BISI) offers academic grants in support of UK-led research, academic conferences and 1 annual pilot project on the lands and peoples of Iraq. We welcome applications from the full range of arts, humanities and social sciences, and projects may cover any time period, from prehistory to the present. Applicants should have an official connection with a UK Higher Education Institution. Academic and Conference Grants (usually up to £4,000 per grant), annual Pilot Project Grant (usually up to £8,000); annual deadline is 1 February. BISI’s Outreach Grants are offered to support public engagement events and projects such as lectures, study days, and popular publications that promote a greater understanding of the history, culture and society of Iraq. Applicants should normally be based in the UK. Preference will be given to activities taking place in the UK, or Iraq. Outreach grants are usually up to £500 per grant; annual deadline is 1 October. In addition to the above grants, BISI offers Visiting Iraqi Scholarships to enable Iraqi scholars and cultural heritage professionals to engage in research, training and collaborative projects in the UK.
