Scholarship Description
High school or junior high school students from public, parochial, military, cyber, private, or home school, are eligible to participate in The American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program.
High school students under age 20 are eligible. Competition begins at the post level and advances to a state competition. Legion department representatives certify one winner per state to the national contest, where department winners compete against each other in two speaking rounds. The contest caps off with a final round that decides the three top finishers. Applicants must be under the age of 20 on the date of the National Contest, commencing with grade 9 and terminating with grade 12, during the time of participation at any level of the contest.
Arrangements for contests leading up to the department finals shall be the responsibility of each American Legion state and local department.

- Must currently be in high school
- Type of institution award is open to: two-year college
- Type of institution award is open to: four-year college
- Type of institution award is open to: trade/technical school
- Award is available to U.S. citizens
