Tailon Leitzsey is an athlete, entrepreneur, community leader and father. Throughout his academic, athletic, and personal journeys, he has experienced ups and downs of all shapes and sizes.

"Adversity helped shape me into the person I am today. Throughout my life, I have been faced with obstacle after obstacle, and sometimes wondered why but I made the decision to keep going. It wasn't until I got to the other side that I realized I was being prepped for greater. Nothing worth having comes easy."

To add on to his long list of endeavors centered around giving back to his community, Tailon is excited to be partnering with Access Scholarships to do exactly that once again! For the Perseverance is Key Scholarship, we will be awarding 4 scholarships worth $1,000 each will be given to students who have demonstrated perseverance throughout their lives.

High school and undergraduate students of all years studying in the US are encouraged to apply. Special consideration will be given to minority students, students who have experienced foster care, and students who are or will be the first in their family to attend college.

Who can apply for the Perseverance Is Key Scholarship?

The Perseverance Is Key Scholarship is open to high school and undergraduate students of all years who are 13 years of age and older and studying in the United States. Students of all majors/areas of study are welcome to apply. 

Special consideration will be given to minority students, students who have experienced foster care, and students who are or will be the first in their family to attend college. 


What is the deadline to apply? Are there any exceptions?

The deadline to apply is December 15, 2023 at 11:59pm EST. Applications that are submitted after this date will not be considered.

What are the application requirements?

To apply, you must:

  • Fill out the application form above
  • Upload your written submission as a PDF (note: if your submission is not uploaded as a PDF file, it will not be considered)
Do I have to be a US citizen to apply?

This scholarship is open to US citizens/permanent residents, as well as DACA recipients and international students currently studying in the US

What is the breakdown of the scholarship award amounts?

Four awards in the amount of $1,000 each.

How are scholarship winners chosen?

Winners will be chosen based on the quality and thoughtfulness of their written submission. 

If I win, how will I receive my scholarship?

If you are selected as a winner, you will be contacted by Access Scholarships via email or phone number to have your scholarship check sent to you.
