Scholarships for Every Type of Art Student

With the category of “the Arts” comprising of so many different areas, ranging from painting to music to graphic design, it is no surprise that many thousands of students each year fall under the umbrella of pursuing degrees in Arts-related disciplines. If you are one of these students, and you are in search of scholarships to help fund your degree, read on to discover just a handful of the many scholarships available for art students.

1.Support Creativity Scholarship 

Average Amount Awarded: $2,000

The Support Creativity Scholarship is for (but not limited to) passionate designers, animators, editors, photographers, artists, illustrators, and painters, who wish to develop their skills at higher education institutions. The student must submit a project that illustrates their passion for their specific creative field in any medium. The student must also submit an essay describing their project as well as any financial hardships.

2. AIGA Worldstudio Scholarships

Average Amount Awarded: $2,255

Scholarships are available for underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students who are pursuing degrees in illustration, photography, and communication design disciplines at colleges and universities in the United States. Among the scholarships' primary aims are to increase diversity in the creative professions and to foster social and environmental responsibility in the artists, designers, and studios of tomorrow. To this end, scholarship recipients are selected not only for their ability and need, but also for their demonstrated commitment to positive change in the larger community through their work. 

3. 10th Annual Create-A-Greeting-Card $10,000 Scholarship Contest

Students must submit an original photo, piece of artwork, or computer graphic for the front of a greeting card. The student with the best design will win a $10,000 scholarship and have his or her entry made into an actual greeting card to be sold in The Gallery Collection's line. 4. AICPA John L. Carey Scholarship Award

The AICPA John L. Carey scholarship award is part of the AICPA Legacy Scholars program. The award provides financial assistance to liberal arts and non-business degree holders who are pursuing both graduate studies in accounting and the CPA licensure. These awards are intended to encourage students with little or no previous accounting education to consider professional accounting careers. All applications must be completed and submitted by the deadline to be considered.

Students interested in being considered for more than one AICPA Legacy Scholarship awards need only to complete one application; applicants will be evaluated for all awards for which they are eligible. Scholarship aid may be used only for the payment of expenses that directly relate to obtaining an accounting education (e.g.; tuition, fees, room and board, and/or books and materials). 5. Milton Fisher Scholarship for Innovation and Creativity

The scholarship is open to exceptionally Innovative and Creative High School Juniors, Seniors and College Freshmen who are from Connecticut or the New York City metro area (and plan to attend or are attending college anywhere in the U.S.) OR from any part of the U.S. who plan to attend (or are attending) college in CT or NYC. Apply for this scholarship if you are a student who has solved an artistic, scientific, or technical problem in a new or unusual way OR a student who has come up with a distinctive solution to problems faced by your school, community or family

6. Arts Council of Greater Grand Rapids Minority Scholarship 

Average Amount Awarded: $5,000

Application Deadline: April 1

Scholarship is for students of color (African American, Asian, Hispanic, Native American, Pacific Islander) attending a non-profit public or private college/university majoring in Fine Arts including all visual and performing art forms. Must have financial need, be a Kent County resident, and have a minimum 2.5 GPA.

7. Mary Olive Eddy Jones Art Scholarship 

Average Amount Awarded: $1,000

Application Deadline: March 31

Number Awarded Last Year: 3

The Mary Olive Eddy Jones Art Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship offered to a sophomore or junior student in attendance at a college or university in West Virginia who is currently majoring in an art-related field.

8. Jim McKay Memorial Scholarship 

Average Amount Awarded: $10,000

Application Deadline: March 22

Number Awarded Last Year: 1

The Jim McKay Memorial Scholarship honors sports journalist Jim McKay (1921-2008) and was established in 2009 by the HBO, CBS, NBC, ABC, and FOX networks. It is presented at the Sports Emmys each May. It is awarded to a college-bound applicant who demonstrates exceptional talent as a creator of video programming as well as outstanding academic achievement and potential for success in a highly competitive profession.

9. American Art Therapy Association Anniversary Scholarship Fund 

Average Amount Awarded: $900

Application Deadline: May 1

Number Awarded Last Year: 1

Available to a student member with a current, or most recent, GPA of at least 3.25 who can demonstrate financial need and acceptance or enrollment in a graduate art therapy program. Students receiving this award are strongly encouraged to attend the conference. Scholarship Award Amount: Up to $1,000.00.

10. CBC Spouses Visual Arts Scholarship 

Average Amount Awarded: $3,000

Application Deadline: April 30

Number Awarded Last Year: 10

This award is for students with majors in the visual arts including, but not limited to, architecture, ceramics, drawing, fashion, graphic design, illustration, interior design, painting, photography, sketching, video production, and other decorative arts.

11. Pretty Lightroom Presets Scholarship

Average Amount Awarded: $500

Application Deadline: April 15

Pretty Lightroom Presets recognizes the importance of higher education and the role it plays in our personal and professional fulfillment.  That’s why we are so excited to continue our Pretty Presets for Lightroom $500 annual scholarship. This ongoing scholarship provides college and university students an opportunity to earn money to further their education and achieve their goals!

12. BMI Future Jazz Master Scholarship

Average Amount Awarded: $5,000

Application Deadline: January 22

Applicants are required to submit the following:

  1. Three recordings (MP3 or MP4a files) of recent performances. At least one of these performed works must be original. There are no limitations as to age, style, instrumentation, or voice.
  2. Track listing that includes title, composer, and performance information for each submitted recording.
  3. A chart or score of any recording submission that is an original work.

13. BMI Student Composer Awards

Average Amount Awarded: $5,000

Application Deadline: February 5

One-time awards for original compositions in the classical genre for young student composers who are under age 28 and citizens of the Western Hemisphere. Must submit an application and original musical score. Online application available: bmifoundation.org/sca

14. Nashville Songwriting Scholarship

Average Amount Awarded: $5,000

Deadline: January 22

The Nashville Songwriting Scholarship is an annual competition established in 2015 to encourage and support aspiring country music songwriters nationwide. The award commemorates Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI)’s 75th Anniversary year and pays homage to musical epicenter and “Songwriting Capital of the World,” Nashville, Tennessee. A $5,000 scholarship is awarded for the best original song entry in any of the following genres: Americana, blues, bluegrass, contemporary Christian, country, folk, and roots. GRAMMY-winning recording artist and BMI songwriter Kacey Musgraves has endorsed the competition.
