Scholarship Description
There are a number of state and federal programs that can help pay for the education of veterans and their family members. Maine offers the Veterans Dependents Educational Benefits program, a 100% tuition and fee waiver for spouses and dependents of veterans who have a 100% permanent and total service-connected disability or who meet other eligibility requirements, such as being killed in action. This program is available at schools in the University of Maine System, Maine Community Colleges, and Maine Maritime Academy.
Veteran means any person who served in the military of the United States and entered the service from this State or has been a resident of this State for 5 years. Veterans who entered service from another state must provide residency verification for the State of Maine for 5 years preceding the application.
**In order to be eligible for benefits under this subsection, a student must apply for a Federal Pell Grant under 20 United States Code, Section 1070a **
